Mechanical engineers are designers primarily and develop, build and test mechanical and thermal sensors and devices from tools to engines and machines. They also design and construct equipment for industries from air-conditioning, refrigeration and elevators and escalators.

With this course you will become a skilled Mechanical Engineer and can then register at any University of Technology after obtaining 50% and above in each subject.

Admission Requirements

N3

If you completed the N2 certificate in Motor, Welding or Fitter and Turner you can progress to the N3 qualification. If not, you will require a National Senior Certificate with English, Maths, Physical Science/Mechanical Tec/Civil or any other technical related subject to join this programme.

N4

You will require an N3 qualification and a National Senior Certificate with 40% in Maths and
Physical Science.

Duration

This is a two year classroom-based course. You will also require 24-months of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) to complete the qualification.

Full-time weekday classes and 24-month of WIL

All examinations are administered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Employment Options

Once you have completed N1-N2, or N3-N4 qualification, you may enter the job market as an entry level mechanical engineer, and can then articulate to the N5-N6 at any University of Technology to progress to the next level of your career.

Work Integrated Learning, Internships and Employment

In 2017, Berea Technical College launched the 100% Graduate Employment Programme (GEP) as a CSI initiative to help address the high percentage of unemployed youth in the country. The programme aims to assist our students to secure the necessary Work Integrated Learning (WIL) hours and internship in order to receive their qualification and enter the job market.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS,DURATION AND NOTES

All examinations are administered by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
Admission requirements

N3
National Senior Certificate with English, Maths, Physical Science/Mechanical Tech/Civil or any other technical related subject or N2 Certificate.

N4
National Senior Certificate with 40% Maths, Physical Science/ N3 Certificate.
Successful completion will allow learners to articulate to most UOTs with a proviso that they obtain at least 50% in each subject.
The minimum duration to satisfy the requirements of the National ‘N’ Diploma is two years of theory and 24 months of work integrated learning (WIL).
