COURSE OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting is arguably one of the hardest tertiary courses in South Africa. To pass, one needs to prove that one can apply calculations, auditing, computation and problem-solving skills at the highest level over all three years of study. The purpose of the BCT’s Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting programme is to afford undergraduate students with quality education and skills that they are able to implement within the Accounting and Financial related sectors. The graduate will have the appropriate knowledge and skill set to successfully bridge the gap of a quality workforce in the Accounting and Financial sector.

Admission Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for the Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting is the following:

a) A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with   Bachelor pass, or

b) An equivalent NQF level 4 qualification with proven proficiency in English

c) A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with Degree endorsement

d) Amended Senior Certificate (ASC), with Degree endorsement

e) A Senior Certificate (SC), with University Exemption or Degree endorsement

f) Foreign School leaving Certificate that complies with minimum admission requirements for Degree study as gazetted by the Matriculation Board (Equivalency evaluation is completed with the Matriculation Board)

g) A Higher Certificate; an Advanced Certificate or Diploma

h) It is possible in some cases, to gain entry into the programme on the basis of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Certification and Examination Authority

On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive a Berea College of Technology Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting.

Duration and Work-Integrated Learning

3 years full-time or 4 years part-time

This 3 or 4 years includes 200 hours to be completed within 3 months
